THE PROJECT

At Primo Foods’ Prestons cold storage warehouse, forklift traffic is constant. Over time, the main thoroughfares had become worn and uneven, creating operational challenges for one of Australia’s largest food suppliers. To address this, specialist applicator CoGri Australia partnered with Fosroc to resurface the high-use areas with Cemtop XD.

Meeting a fast-turnaround challenge

The project involved resurfacing the warehouse’s major forklift lanes inside refrigerated storage areas. Timing was critical: food stock needed to be removed, held in temporary storage, and returned to the warehouse within seven days.

Fosroc Account Manager Daniel Hartland said the main challenge was the tight turnaround required, in order to ensure a full warehouse of refrigerated Primo goods was not lost.

“It was a food storage warehouse where Primo keeps refrigerated goods. The team moved everything out and completed the resurfacing within 24 hours,” Daniel explains. "The whole project was completed over a weekend, and the warehouse was fully re-commissioned within seven days to reduce business 'downtime'."

The Fosroc solution

Cemtop XD was selected for its proven performance in industrial environments and its suitability for cold storage facilities. Key steps included:

  • Grinding of existing concrete to create an even substrate
  • Priming with Nitoprime 330 to ensure reliable adhesion
  • Application of Cemtop XD using a continuous mix pump to a depth of 6–12mm

The product’s rapid early strength development allowed re-commissioning of refrigeration within seven days, with full curing achieved over 28 days.

Benefits delivered

Cemtop XD offered multiple advantages for this project:

  • Fast return to service – foot traffic after 24 hours
  • Durability under heavy forklift loads
  • Abrasion resistance and long-term performance
  • Non-dusting and hygienic finish – essential for food storage areas
  • Smooth, level surface that improves safety and efficiency

“Primo were really happy with the outcome – a smoother surface for forklifts and minimal disruption to operations,” says Daniel.

A successful outcome

The resurfacing was completed smoothly by CoGri Australia, with no disruption to Primo’s distribution schedules. The clean, level finish delivered by Cemtop XD is now supporting efficient warehouse operations and long-term durability in a demanding cold storage environment.
