THE PROJECT

When IKEA selected a site in the Sydney suburb of Marsden Park for a new store in 2015, repair of 600m2 of damaged concrete flooring throughout the building was required prior to opening. The repairs needed to be trafficable, with short turnaround time to ensure no delay to the store's planned opening date.

PROJECT REQUIREMENT

  • Repair 600m2 of damaged concrete flooring throughout the new store prior to opening
  • The repairs needed to be extremely hard-wearing to cope with the very high levels of daily foot traffic
  • The repairs also had to be trafficable within a limited timeframe to ensure no delays occurred for the store opening

THE SOLUTION

Nitoflor SL self-smoothing epoxy floor topping was the ideal solution for this project, meeting the project requirements and addressing all site-specific issues. The contractor removed the damaged sections of concrete floor, then prepared the floor to accept the epoxy topping. The area was then primed using Nitomortar 903 prior to application of Nitoflor SL, which was applied at 4mm thick to repair the damaged sections of floor and provide a hard-wearing, trafficable surface.

THE BENEFITS

The benefits of using Nitoflor SL self-smoothing epoxy floor topping for the application included;

  • Rectification of the damaged concrete floor surface to make the area flat, level, and safe for store customers
  • Provision of an extremely hard-wearing industrial floor, capable of withstanding high levels of foot traffic, which will reduce floor maintenance requirements for the store into the future.
  • Nitoflor SL’s fast application and strength gain allowed the floor to be trafficable in a short period of time, ensuring the store was open on time, without any delays.
