Innovation and practical problem-solving are at the core of Brett Kenny’s role at Fosroc ANZ. From developing new construction chemical solutions to improving existing products and supporting major infrastructure projects, Brett plays an important part in helping customers tackle complex construction challenges. He takes pride in seeing Fosroc products contribute to successful projects across Australia, with his deep technical knowledge helping to deliver smarter, more durable construction outcomes.
Securing product quality and performance
As a Development Chemist, Brett plays a key role in developing new products, enhancing existing product lines and supporting customers with tailored solutions for demanding construction projects.
Backed by more than 15 years of experience across product development, technical support and quality management, Brett supports manufacturing operations to help ensure consistent product quality across Fosroc ANZ’s range. With a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Chemistry and Biology, along with specialist industry training through the SCAA Advanced Surface Coatings Technology Course, Brett calls on his strong technical knowledge to deliver products that address real-world construction challenges.
Building expertise through industry experience
Throughout his career, Brett has developed expertise in concrete repair materials, industrial flooring and protective coatings. He brings this expertise to Fosroc ANZ, where he helps deliver solutions that meet the demanding requirements of Australian construction conditions.
“I enjoy working with great like-minded colleagues who love providing solutions for the construction industry and seeing our products used in large projects around the country,” Brett says.
Among Brett’s favourite Fosroc products are Nitomortar AP and Nitoflor PA, both recognised for their performance and versatility on site.
“Nitomortar AP is an adhesive paste that sticks to almost anything. It’s incredibly versatile and excellent for concrete repairs,” he says.
"Nitoflor PA is also a standout solution. It’s a very durable floor coating with fast return to service."
A competitive edge in Australian conditions
A major focus of Brett’s role is developing products specifically suited to Australian environments and application requirements.
“We develop class-leading products, with many developed in Australia to suit local conditions and application requirements,” he explains.
Brett also highlights the value of Fosroc ANZ’s local technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities.
“We have technical experts based in Australia providing timely specialist support and solutions for customers. Many of our products are manufactured locally, which means we can often supply at short notice compared with overseas-based competitors.”
Delivering tailored project solutions
Brett says one of the most rewarding parts of his role is working closely with customers to solve complex project challenges. One recent example involved a large PVC waterstop installation for concrete water tanks, where Fosroc ANZ developed a customised fabrication solution based on the engineer’s design drawings.
“We developed a procedure to weld many difficult sections in the factory into large custom pieces that could be sent directly to site and welded together using minimal on-site welding,” he explains. “This saved the customer time, made installation much simpler and increased the overall quality of the job.”
Driving industry innovation
Brett is also actively involved in the broader construction and coatings industry through professional associations including the Concrete Institute of Australia (CIA), the Surface Coatings Association Australia (SCAA) and Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia (CCAA).
Through both product development and technical support, he believes collaboration and practical expertise remain critical to the future of the industry.
“Understanding customer requirements and developing solutions that genuinely improve installation, durability and performance is what drives successful outcomes,” he says.
"As construction projects continue to demand higher performance, faster installation and greater durability, I believe locally developed solutions and technical expertise will become increasingly important."
